VGA Comparison AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT vs. Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070

Perbandingan VGA AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT vs. Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070

Ruangngoprek.web.id - When AMD launched the Radeon RX 9070 XT, it positioned it as a direct competitor to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5070. However, in the world of graphics cards, real-world pricing often reflects a different perspective than marketing intent. And when we first tested the 9070 XT in 55 games, it wasn't up against the 5070—it was up against the more powerful 5070 Ti.

Predictably, some were disappointed with the decision, but there was a reason: at the time, AMD graphics card prices were close to those of the Ti variants, and we were curious to see how these cards would fare against more powerful competitors. The Radeon was about 5% slower in performance, but about 17% cheaper based on the prices people actually paid—not the manufacturer's suggested prices.

Now, it's time for the head-to-head showdown that some of you have been waiting for: the 9070 XT vs. the RTX 5070.

Now, it's time for the head-to-head showdown that some of you have been waiting for: the 9070 XT vs. the RTX 5070.

Since our last round of testing – 55 games at 1440p and 4K resolutions – both AMD and Nvidia have released driver updates that improve performance in some titles.

Meanwhile, GPU prices have changed significantly. The RTX 5070 is approaching its MSRP, with the card priced around $610, while the 5070 Ti is now around $825. Surprisingly, the Radeon 9070 XT has moved in the opposite direction – it currently sells for around $860 in the US, 41% more than the RTX 5070 and even more expensive than the faster 5070 Ti.

That's a surprising change, especially considering this processor also carries a 4% premium over the 5070 Ti, despite being 5% slower on average and offering a weaker feature set.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT

A similar story unfolds around the world, with price differences varying by region, but consistently placing the 9070 XT at a premium over the 5070. In Germany, the Radeon 9070 XT is priced at 745 euros, which is 11% cheaper than the 5070 Ti, but still 26% more expensive than the 5070.

That's an improvement over what we're seeing in the US, but ideally, the 9070 XT should be at least 20% cheaper than the 5070 Ti and only about 10% more expensive than the 5070.

In Canada, the 9070 XT is priced at $1,100, which is 12% cheaper than the 5070 Ti, but also 34% more expensive than the RTX 5070. Meanwhile, in Australia, the 5070 and 5070 Ti are available at their local suggested retail prices (SRP). At $1,300 AUD, the 9070 XT is 14% cheaper than the 5070 Ti and 18% more expensive than the 5070.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070

In short, that means the 9070 XT costs 41% more than the 5070 in the US, 34% more in Canada, 26% more in Germany, and 18% more in Australia.

So, with the latest drivers in place, how much faster is the 9070 XT compared to the RTX 5070?

Performance Summary of 57 Games
1440p frame rate
At 1440p in the 57 games tested, the 9070 XT was, on average, 17% faster than the RTX 5070. That would be impressive if both cards were available at MSRP, considering the Radeon GPU is supposed to be only 9% more expensive.

However, in Australia it is 18% more expensive, and prices in other major regions are typically 30 – 40% higher, meaning the 9070 XT currently represents poor value.

4K rate
4K results are only slightly better. The 9070 XT is 21% faster on average than the RTX 5070. Again, it's 18% more expensive in Australia, and in regions like Canada, Germany, and the US, it's significantly more expensive than the RTX 5070.

Cost Per Frame (compared to RTX 5070)
Let's see how the 9070 XT compares to the RTX 5070 in terms of cost per frame across four regions. In Australia, the 9070 XT is slightly worse than the RTX 5070 – only by a few percent – so in practical terms, they're roughly the same value.

Even in regions where the 9070 XT technically offers better value than the 5070 Ti, the margins are in the single digits – well below the 20% improvement needed to make it a clearly better choice.

Will GeForce owners really switch to Radeon for less than a 10% savings? We already know the answer. If pricing and availability continue at this rate, Radeon sales will slow rapidly.

Who is the winner?
Well, there you have it. In various games, the 9070 XT is about 20% faster than the RTX 5070, putting it in a higher performance bracket. It would be great news for AMD if both GPUs were available at their suggested retail prices.

In this case, the Radeon 9070 XT will cost about 10% more with 20% better performance. You can also ignore the advantages of GeForce GPUs—such as better upscaling support and superior ray tracing performance—especially since the latter is hampered by the RTX 5070's limited 12GB of VRAM, which we expect to be a significant limitation in the coming years.

However, as we just saw, AMD hasn't been able to maintain its MSRP—something we anticipated in our first-day review. At the time, we reported that AMD was heavily subsidizing early batches of products to meet the advertised MSRP, while board partners told us that the actual MSRP for many models was much higher. Here's what we said in that review:

...we have some concerns about how "real" the $600 MSRP actually is. After some investigation, it appears that AMD is giving a $50 discount to retailers to achieve the $600 price. This strongly suggests that the intended MSRP is actually $650, and AMD is temporarily subsidizing the model to achieve the lower price point.

For example, XFX confirmed that the 9070 XT Mercury – the model featured in this review – won't cost $650. In fact, it won't even cost $700. Instead, its official MSRP is $770, and due to tariffs, the street price is expected to be $850 – which would be tragic if true.

From what we've gathered, it appears AMD is starting to play Nvidia's pricing game. This means that while some 9070 XT models may be available at the starting price of $600, most will likely be priced higher, and restocks at that price may be limited or rare. Much will depend on sales performance.

At the time, we estimated that tariffs would push the actual price to around $850, based on several pre-release sources. Today—two months after launch—the cheapest 9070 XT is $860, which is very much in line with what we've heard.

Unfortunately for AMD, this makes things difficult, as Nvidia now has a price advantage. As we've shown, the RTX 5070 currently offers a much better value in the US, and even the Ti variant offers a better cost-per-frame.

Of course, this depends on the region. In Australia, for example, the RTX 5070 and 9070 XT offer similar value in terms of cost per frame. With that in mind, we'd recommend the 9070 XT locally, especially since it comes with 16GB of VRAM—which we consider the minimum for any GPU priced at $400 or more. That said, the RX 9070 (non-XT), which is almost 20% cheaper, is currently the better choice in Australia.

However, this doesn't apply to the other regions we analyzed. Remarkably, GeForce GPUs currently offer better value in Germany, Canada, and the US. In Canada, the standard RTX 5070 delivers a 20% better cost-per-frame than the Ti model, making it a viable option.

However, we're hesitant to recommend an $820 GPU with only 12GB of VRAM – especially for those planning to play modern titles at maximum settings, using features like ray tracing and frame rendering.

So, after a very promising launch, supported by strong initial availability and competitive pricing thanks to months of subsidized inventory, the 9070 series has been a disappointing release, at least based on current pricing. That said, it hasn't impacted sales, according to the data we've been able to obtain.

Thanks to early hype, the Radeon 9070 XT continues to sell well, outperforming the RTX 5070 Ti locally in terms of units sold. The real issue for AMD is supply, which keeps prices high. But as things stand, for most buyers, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is a better buy, and it's the card we recommend over the 9070 XT right now.
