The following method for saving WhatsApp statuses without an app will work if your phone has the unhide/show hidden files feature. To use it:

1. Open the status you want to save until it's fully readable (don't skip it).
2. Go to Files or File Manager
. 3. Go to Internal Storage , not SD Card .
4. Select WhatsApp.
5. Select Media.
6. Click the three-dot icon.

7. Select Show hidden files

8. Wait a few moments. Select .Statuses  . This is where your WhatsApp statuses are stored.

9. Select and copy the story you want to move to another folder
10. Done

B. With the ES File Explorer Application


Prepare the device first:
Download ES File Explorer
[PlayStore] [AppStore]

After you download and install ES File Explorer, please continue to the following steps:

1. First, open the status you want to save until the status is fully read (do not skip)
2. Open ES File Explorer. If it is your first time using this application, please slide to the right and select the blue box Let's start
3. Click the 3 line icon in the upper left corner

4. Slide Show hidden files until it is on.

5. Click internal storage

6. Select WhatsApp -> Media

7. A slightly shaded folder named .Statuses will appear.    Click on it. Your stories are stored in the hidden folder.

8. Hold/long press the status you want to save then select Copy

9. Choose where to move the status photo. Here, I moved it to the Media folder so it wouldn't be too far away.

10. Done

Go to your WhatsApp -> Media folder and the desired photo will now be saved to your phone.
